Go Greens! Smoothie Recipe
1 cup mango
1 cup cherries
1 banana
1 carrot
1 small piece fresh ginger, peeled
1 handful of your favorite greens (spinach, kale, romaine)
1/4 cup cashews or almonds (optional)
1/2 cup water as needed (can substitute coconut water)
Blend all ingredients in Vita Mix or other high speed blender until smooth. Keep cold in an airtight container and enjoy all day long!
Why I Love Ginger.....
I recently learned that ginger root, as an herbaceutical, has 477 medical constituents. Most pharmeceuticals have 1 medical constituent. One easy way to include it is to blend a small 1" piece into your morning smoothie (as shown in the above recipe). Another way, is to grate a small piece and add to warm water, for ginger root tea. Here are some reasons why to include this amazing herb into your diet;
There is a wide range of benefits of ginger such as relief of nausea, digestive problems, arthritis and improved circulation. Relief of nausea caused during pregnancy or by travelling is one of the benefits of ginger root. Ginger is also known to have the ability to calm an upset stomach and to promote the flow of bile. Stomach cramps can be eased and circulation can also be improved. Ginger supports a healthy cardiovascular system by making platelets less sticky which in turn reduces circulatory problems. Ginger oil used for massage can help relieve painful arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger is often included in many herbal decongestants and can help to minimize the symptoms of respiratory conditions, colds and allergies.
There are, however, some cautions that have been recommended. These include not taking ginger for more than the first two months of pregnancy and no more than 250mg four times a day. People with gallstones should consult their doctors prior to taking ginger as it is know to increase bile flow.
